2012 Year In Review

First and foremost, I’d like to thank my readers for continuing to follow my blog.  Monilogues turned 3 this year and it’s been really wonderful to share my pictures and life experiences with you.  They grow up so fast… *sniff*  Your virtual gold stars have been much appreciated, and I truly value your input, encouragement, and general awesomeness.

2012 was a really wonderful year, full of milestones, celebrations, and accomplishments.  Here are some of the highlights:

Skiing is hard.

Skiing is hard.

I went skiing on a real mountain for the first time ever when I went out to Steamboat Springs, CO in March.  I had previously only skied the bunny hills of Wisconsin, and being out west is a completely different beast.  My goal for 2013 is to attempt another ski trip without wiping out on a green run.  No black diamonds for this girl.

Steamboat Springs was my celebration trip after I had finished up my final MBA class.  Although I officially graduated in March, my graduation ceremony was in June and I celebrated with my family and some of my nearest and dearest friends.  Going to business school was a phenomenal experience.  I met some wonderful people, learned a ton, and was able to cross “study abroad” off my bucket list.  I’m counting on 2013 to shower me with copious exciting career opportunities!

3, 2, 1.... GO!

3, 2, 1…. GO!

With grad school off my plate and loads of free time suddenly available, I decided to check out Crossfit.  I had talked to a few friends that were into it and they’re in pretty impressive shape.  Since I was a gymnast as a kid and Crossfit utilizes some gymnastics techniques, I thought it would be a really fun way to workout.  Picture this:  Moni walks into a Crossfit gym thinking that she’s already in semi-decent shape and is going to blow the WOD (workout of the day) away and barely break a sweat.  Moni leaves the Crossfit gym with a bright red face, gasping for air and practically crawling.

Needless to say…  I was hooked.  Crossfit is different from most workout programs because you workout in groups.  I’m a HIGHLY competitive person (I’m sure this shocks you) and if I see the person next to me lifting more weight or pushing through an exercise when they’re out of breath, I feel compelled to do the same.  It’s motivated me to push myself and get stronger in ways I didn’t even know were possible.  In 2013, I’ll be starting the year by participating in a 6 week paleo diet challenge through my CF gym.  My goal isn’t to weight related, it’s just to be as healthy as possible and feel great.

Bears, buffalo, and community showers... oh, my!!

Bears, buffalo, and community showers… oh, my!!

In July, I took my first ever camping trip to South Dakota.  This was the first time I had ever camped in a tent and spent significant time at a National Park.  The scenery was truly breathtaking and my pictures from SD are some of my favorites from 2012.  Although I’m not a big fan of community shower stalls and toilets that don’t flush, it was a great experience and a very memorable trip.  I really loved vacationing at a National Park and hope to visit more in 2013 and beyond!

30 is off to a great start!

30 is off to a great start!

In August, I turned 30.  Although I had been dreading this milestone for the months (possibly years) prior, it’s really not so bad.  So far, 30 has been really great.  I feel more confident about my life and more in control of my choices.  I expect this to be the best decade yet – until 40, and then I assume it will just keep getting better.  I’m optimistic like that.  🙂

Weddings galore

Weddings galore

This year seemed to be the year of weddings.  I was honored to be a bridesmaid in two, and attended several more.  I love weddings.  Not only is it an event that celebrates love, but open bars and dance floors are two of my favorite things.  Congratulations to Stacey and Ben, Michael and Julie, Meredith and Matt, David and Selena, and Chris and Dina!

Those are only a few of the many highlights from 2012.  Going into 2013, I have a lot of energy and excitement about the new year and I look forward to many new adventures and experiences.

I hope you are all enjoying the last few hours of 2012.  Happy New Year to each and every one of you!  Thank you again for being the best blog-readers a girl could ask for.  Do tell – do you have any new years resolutions?  What are you looking forward to most in 2013?
