South Dakota, July 2012

Let’s be real…  girls from Boca don’t really know how to rough it.  So when a camping trip was proposed to me, I was definitely a bit apprehensive.   Although I don’t love getting my hands dirty, I like to think that I’m not a typical hoity toity girlie girl, so I packed my bags and left the blow-dryer at home.

Consensus:  thumbs down for tents, but thumbs up for the great outdoors (and double thumbs-up for baseball caps).

While it took me a couple of days to adjust to my air mattress and snoring tent-mate, the South Dakota experience was pretty awesome.  I had never seen such beautiful landscapes before and the wildlife was remarkable.   We stopped in the Badlands, gambled in Deadwood, visited Mt. Rushmore, and hiked the Black Hills.  We also ventured into some open plains to buddy up to some buffalo (however, they didn’t appear very welcoming).   It was truly a phenomenal experience and a trip that I’ll remember forever.  It also sparked an interest in National Parks and I hope someday to check out a few more.  Glacier National Park, Yellowstone, and Yosemite are definitely on my bucket list.  If you have any suggestions, I’m all ears (and eyes), especially if you can recommend cabins to rent.  😉
